Objective: To evaluate the participation of different fat deposits in the coexistence of Hypertension (HTN).
Methods: 101 patients were studied. Epicardial fat (EF) was measured by echocardiography. Measurement of preperitoneal (GPre), mesenteric (MF) and perirenal (PF) fat was performed by ultrasound. The statistical methods used were odds ratio, Mann Whitney’s U, and Fischer's exact test. Results: We found a significant association between EF (OR = 4.47 95% CI 1.41- 14.1, p = 0.001), MF (OR = 5.3, 95% CI 1.83-15.3, p = 0.0011) with the development of HTN, no patient with normal perirenal fat presented hypertension. We found no association between GPre and HTN (OR 1, 95% CI 0.39-3.8). Conclusion: Our results suggest that epicardial, mesenteric and perirenal fat show greater influence than preperitoneal fat on the coexistence of HTN, so not only the quantity, but also the location of fatty deposits, influence the development of the disease.
