Association between the degree of satisfaction with insulin treatment and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the association between satisfaction with insulin treatment and quality of life in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Observational, cross-sectional, comparative, analytical study with a non-random quota sample. The study was conducted at the IMSS Diabetes Care Center (CADIMSS) of Family Medicine Unit No. 250 “La Magdalena” of the Mexican Social Security Institute, State of Mexico West, Mexico. Instruments: Insulin Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (ITSQ) and Diabetes 39 with the purpose of determining the association of satisfaction with insulin treatment and quality of life in CADIMSS patients. Results: A total of 130 patients from CADIMSS were interviewed; 96 patients were satisfied with the insulin treatment (82.7%) with good quality of life, on the other hand four patients stated that they were dissatisfied (30.8%) with poor quality of life p= 0.221. Conclusions: No association was observed between quality of life and satisfaction with insulin treatment in patients with T2DM; most patients were satisfied with their treatment.
